Grief is a universal experience that is characterized by a wide array of emotions, however the grieving process is often dreaded and practiced in isolation. There are many different catalysts to grief, often revolving around the loss of others or oneself, but it arises from our attachments to temporary ideas. In this class, we will explore how grief gives us insight not only into our desires but also our self-limiting beliefs. With prompts that deconstruct the different stages of grief in relationship to one’s self-manufactured beliefs, students will be able to witness and relate to their grief more intimately. Overall, students will be given the opportunity to re-conceptualize their relationship to “negative” emotions in a group setting, developing their capacity to cope without force.
