Mothers and other caregivers who raise children know there's minimal separation between our craft and our daily responsibilities. But we're not always sure how to connect the experiences to the larger world or develop practices that make it easier to juggle both.
Writing Motherhood from the Margins provides a space for marginalized mothers and caregivers to discuss the big and small aspects of writing. This four-week class will cover the importance of owning your story while managing the responsibilities of mothering. We will explore the social, practical, and systemic elements of crafting maternal narratives.
Topics explored include, but are not limited to:
- Finding balance between home tasks and writing goals
- Identifying the political and historical threads in our personal lives
- The importance of crafting stories that protect our children’s autonomy across genres
The class focuses on the experiences of those with marginalized identities, primarily related to race, but also addresses other forms of marginalization, such as ability status and mental health. It will benefit all caregivers.
