You have a complete manuscript. You’re ready to pursue traditional publication. What comes next? Get a literary agent’s inside perspective on how to craft a query letter and submission package that makes your manuscript stand out for all the right reasons. Learn about the most essential elements of a strong pitch, what agents look for in sample pages, and general best practices for querying.

This session will also have a Q&A portion.

After earning a master’s degree from the University of Florida, Laurie began her career as an English teacher. She then spent over ten years working as a freelance writer and editor in desktop publishing, including serving as a Pitch Wars mentor for five years. She is proud to have worked with debut author Megan Scott on her Sunday Times Bestseller The Temptation of Magic. In 2022 Laurie completed the Denver Publishing Institute, leading to an internship at Creative Media Agency, Inc. before stepping into her current role as an associate agent and internship coordinator.

Laurie loves upmarket writing, complex characters, and immersive settings. Complicated relationships and family dynamics are a particular interest of hers, and she appreciates character development that is directly and organically integrated with the plot. In fiction, Laurie represents romance, book club, women’s fiction, domestic suspense, commercial mystery/thriller, and all genres of YA. In nonfiction, she is interested in authors who are specialists in their fields, have strong platforms, and can help readers see the world in a new light. She wants to see diversity of all types authentically represented in all genres; she would love to champion minority voices as she actively builds her list.
