Meet THe Team
Through sharing with each other, asking questions - Who are we together? How does our connection as family members affect our lives individually? What do we need or want to know about each other to live in fullness? What mysteries do we want to share together on the page with our grandparents, grandchildren, parents, children, aunts and uncles, cousins? - and following prompts provided by the workshop leader and writer Nina Adel, participants will create short individual, family, and interactive texts that may include prose or poetry as well as visual elements.
Writing, drawing, and collage supplies will be provided for those who wish to enhance their creations beyond text-only pieces. Participants will leave the workshop more invested in each other’s stories and prepared to continue writing together and for each other.
NOTE: Registration cost covers you and your plus-one family member!
In this workshop, family members across generations are invited to write, talk, and document their own and each other’s stories on the page. Family members of all ages and levels of experience come, together, with notes, photos, letters, journals, written bits, or simply ideas.
Nina Adel [she, her] holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Hamline University. Winner of the Bellevue Literary Review’s 2020 Buckvar Prize for her lyric essay "Refugere," Nina’s work has been published in Flash Fiction Magazine, Moria, Breath and Shadow, matchbook, and many other publications. She is the recipient of a 2023 Yaddo artist residency and has received additional recognition in such diverse corners of the arts world as Glimmer Train, The Kerrville Music Festival, and Wolf Trap, among others. She is a Berklee-trained musician, craftsperson (owner of Blue Salamander Arts and Letters), and English professor, and is the editor of the recent anthology "A Lighthouse," a collection of immigrant voices from the Immigrants Write program, which she directs at The Porch. She lives in Nashville with her family.
